The video I have decided to use in my New Media in the Media project is a trailer from the movie Missing. The movie is essentially about a girl named June whose mother went missing while on a vacation with her boyfriend. June attempted contacting her mom but was not able to so she took matters into her own hands and used technology to try and find her. In the clip, June is seen using recent technology such as FaceTime, Messages, emails, and Google to gather information to try and find her mom. The movie trailer ultimately shows a utopian view of technology in our world by first showing the different ways of communication new media technologies provide for us. For example, in the trailer, June is seen facetiming her mom in the beginning and later face timing who appears to be a lawyer. The trailer also shows a utopian view by showing that with the right knowledge, it is certainly possible to track someone who may be missing without the help of law enforcers. This is shown as June is seen asking a Taskrabbit employee to get the security camera footage from a hotel. While in this case, it is quite beneficial to be able to piece together information on the internet to find someone, this also shows a dystopian view showing how it could potentially be dangerous being able to track someone on the internet so easily.
